Distilleries Ireland

Old Bushmills Distillery, Bushmills, Northern Ireland

The Old Bushmills Distillery is the oldest licensed whiskey distillery in the world making whiskey since 1608. Located in a town of the same name, the distillery is close to the River Bush-the source of the water for the famous whiskey. The Old Bushmills Distillery is one of the few “grain to glass” distilleries in Ireland-meaning the whiskey is handcrafted in small batches on one site, rather than in different locations.

A private tour of the facilities puts you in the middle of the history and the process used to produce the classic Irish whiskey. The types of barley are explained, as are the differences between Scottish and Irish whiskeys. The process is still hands on, and the tour takes you through the stages involved, to the warehouse where aged casks hold the whiskey until mature, and finishes at the bar where tastings commence.

Jameson-Past and Present- Midleton and Dublin, Ireland

In 1780, John Jameson started The John Jameson and Sons Irish Whiskey Company-a Scotsman who worked as the general manager in the previous The Steins Family Bow Street Distillery- he changed the way the world looked at the spirit.

There are two places to discovery the legacy of the Jameson label-in the original location in Dublin that has transformed into an immersive tasting tour, museum, and bar, and at the current distillery in Midleton.
